Di Cavalcanti was the first Brazilian artist to truly capture the face of Brazil. He spent his life portraying the country with courage and originality. From the creation of Brazil’s first Modern Art Week in 1922 to the 1960s and 1970s, his work became a familiar presence in Brazilian homes, eventually reaching an international audience. His creativity, freedom, excesses, and suffering found expression in his paintings. Guided by pleasure and wisdom, Di experienced both pain and glory. Di is, indeed, Brazilian!
