The show was originally to be replaced by Alakdana but Alakdana was moved to the timeslot previously occupied by Ang Yaman ni Lola after Eat Bulaga. Bantatay was inspired by the 1995 American Film Fluke as well as the hit the children's TV series, 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd.

After two years, stories involving the Thompson and Stevens families—and the UK-Australian crossover angle—had run their course, with several characters either dead or left for pastures new.
